What Instructors Can Do

It’s not what your instructor can do, it’s what your instructor can do for you that matters most.

Agree, disagree?

    I agree.

    1. Being a great Boxer does not make you a great Boxing instructor. This is true with any sport.

    2. Wanting to instruct doesn’t make you a good instructor either.
2a Like BJJ this takes years of practice to give your student(s) the tools needed to improve HIS/HER game.

    3. Just because you practice a great deal(everyday) and are considered “good” and want to give back doesn’t mean you know how to convey your/the schools concepts.

    Which is better?
Too be good at BJJ -or- Too be good for BJJ
I strive to be both, but if forced to choose; I would choose the latter.
Whats the difference between the two: Sacrifice
If this isn’t making sense, I hope you enjoy your season in the sun being good at BJJ.

The reason people come and train at our school, and end up staying at our school, is not solely clint and the other fellas there are our fantastic jiu-jitsu practioners, its because of our closeness. It is nice having a great jitz person teach our classes, but its even better have a great instructor teach our classes! No matter how good anyone was I wouldn’t still be coming back if they didnt make me a better person.

For me the most important thing an Instructor can provide is a problem for me too solve.
The most damaging thing an instructor can do is give me the answer.
